15: <a href="http://www.rpm.org/">RPM</a> packages</h1>
16: </center>
17:
18: <h2>Goal</h2>
19:
20: <b>rpm2html</b> automatically generate Web pages describing a set of <a
21: href="http://www.rpm.org/">RPM</a> packages. Preliminary results obtained by
22: running it on a local mirror of Redhat distribution and the RedHat contrib
23: directores are available. SuSE-5.1 RPM packages have been added as well a
24: XFree86 updates from SuSE, especially useful for the new chipsets. I added
25: also OpenLinux Lite 1.1.1 to the list of dristribution, and added warning when
26: a package doesn't provide a correct set of resources.
27: <p>
28: The goals of rpm2html are also to identify the dependencies between various
29: packages and to find the package(s) providing the resources needed to install
30: a given package. Every package is analyzed to retrieve its dependencies and
31: the resources it offers. These relationships are expressed using hyperlinks in
32: the generated pages. Finding the package providing the resource you need is
33: just a matter of a few clicks!</p>
34: <p>
35: The ultimate commodity is ensured by indexing this set of pages, allowing the
36: user to find instantaneously the package(s) providing any given functionality
37: (as long as the package maintainer has properly commented the RPM).</p>
38: <p>
39: Rpm2html now support <a href="http://www.w3.org/Metadata/">RDF </a>encoding
40: and decoding of RPM metadata. The long term goal is to provide metadata
41: information for RPM packages on a large scale and use them to automate
1.32 veillard 42: searching, installing and upgrade linux packages.</p>

46: <li>
47: rpm2html-0.90 is out ! A lot of new stuff, e.g. <a

49: a lot of cleanups.
50: <li>
51: But basically the main improvement is the support for <a
52: href="http://www.w3.org/Metadata/">RDF</a> encoding of RPM metadata. One can
53: also regenerate the HTML pages just from the metadata , <a
