recv() returns undef on failure

Per http://use.perl.org/article.pl?sid=02/03/06/1318212&mode=nested&tid=2
recfrom is not required by UNIX98 to return the peer address, and Linux
kernel 2.4 changed to no longer return it.  So code around this change.
Also fix a bug wherein the service name is not reported on a disconnect.
