bind/

This directory contains a patched version of bind for having a DNS give different answers in function of the AS to which belongs the caller. These extensions were first proposed in 1996 by Luc Ottavj and implemented in bind 4.x.x by Phillipe Balse, both of INRIA. Jose Kahan of W3C/INRIA ported them to bind 8.2.1 and improved the patches in August 1999. They are given as such to the public with no guarantee or support whatsoever.
Current version is bind 8.2.3.
To compile bind with these patches, follow these steps:

  • cvs checkout the bind directory from dev.w3.org.
You'll get here a directory with the patches and the rest of the bind distribution inside a tar file.
  • cd bind
  • tar -xvf bind-8-2-x-orig.tgz
  • follow the instructions on src/INSTALL to see how to install bind in your computer.
What I usually do for building my test server:
  • make

In the etc directory, you'll find a sample configuration for the bind server and my .settings file

And that's all the doc for the moment.

    For Debian-Users

If you want to use Debian-package of this version of BIND, see README.Debian-Package. (By Norio(next@w3.org)
